THU THU is the label of designer Thuy Duong Nguyen. Born in Vietnam before moving to Germany at an early age, she has been influenced by two strong cultural forces. Her designs effortlessly unite Western style with the charm and intricacy of the Far East, creating pieces that align with the spirit of the young generation. Handcrafted Vietnamese embroideries feature in innovative fabric contrasts, creating pieces that exude confident femininity and lightness of being. In exploring the affinities between traditional rural textiles and contemporary cuts, THU THU constructs a new urban aesthetic that contains echoes of distant places and older times.

Paloma Bleu- Styled by Ricky James Flynn
Paloma Beu was lucky enough to feature on the fantastic stylist Ricky James Flynn's new website!

What is Paloma Bleu’s aesthetic?
Paloma Bleu’s aesthetic is clean, polished and no fuss. When designing the fit out I knew I wanted the store to be low key to let our stock speak for itself.
What labels best define Paloma Bleu?
Being a boutique that stocks over 20 different labels from throughout the world, this question is difficult to answer! Local Australian and New Zealand labels such as Ellery, Josh Goot and Karen Walker are very “Paloma” but its also hard to go past some of the lesser know US and European labels I stock such as Lem Lem and Demylee.
What are your favorite pieces in store now?
My Favourite piece in store right now is the Ellery Erotica sequin tee. The detail that must have gone into this is breathtaking, plus it makes me so happy wearing it!
Tell me about your favorite pieces your getting in store for a/w 2012?
When I went to NYC in September I picked up Elizabeth and James as well as Girl by Band of Outsiders. Both collections are unbelievable and I am hanging out for these to arrive! The neon colors and prints are definitely something to look forward to.
Why did you decide to open Paloma Bleu?
After working in retail for 6 years I knew a thing or two about customer. I wanted to open a boutique that was in a league of its own, set apart from the rest, which stocked some local labels but also stocked many labels that an Australian may not know. I wanted to bring some difference to the Australian fashion boutique scene.
How did you decide the direction you wanted to take Paloma Bleu in?
It is difficult to decide what direction the store is going to go until the business doors are open and trading. I have been open a year and our direction is constantly changing. The main thing to remember is to keep your eyes and ears open to see what the customer wants and then to change with their needs.
What are the future plans for Paloma?
My next step for Paloma Bleu would be to offer a small amount of menswear in store. Then go on to open a men’s store perhaps! Who knows what the future holds!
Who is your customer?
Paloma’s customer is forever changing. We have the loyal Aussie fashion
followers who will come into the store and purchase Josh Goot or Ellery
pieces. I also have a lot of older women who shop at Paloma, these women
love fashion, but need versatility too. I need to keep this customer in mind when I am buying. Asking myself, will this suit my older customer as well as everyone else? In doing this I try to avoid too short hemlines, I avoid low waist jeans, I include dresses with a sleeve. Etc. This is an exciting process, as I have found I can cater for a broad customer base without compromising on the labels I stock.
Who is your ideal famous customer?
Alexa Chung. Following Alexa’s style I know she would love many pieces in
store at Paloma!
